I enjoy a myriad of things from photography, graphic design, songwriting and music production, film making, cooking and…crocheting. Yes! I throw down with my little needle, (okay, maybe I’m only so-so with the needle) but the point is, just because you’re a writer, that doesn’t mean you should limit your affinity groups to just communities about writing/writers. You can spread that out to include other interests you have and this is great to meet other people while building your networking circle.
Having affinity groups, gives you like-minded people to network with for support, understanding and cross-promotion. I have met some amazing people from groups like, Writers and Readers of Distinctive Fiction and the Write-Brained Network, both on ning. But I don’t stop there. I also have cooking, film-making, movie watching, comic book, music and photography affinity groups!
Overall, by meeting people in my various settings and interests, I learn new things about myself and have become a better person.
