Rachel Brown – Music Review

rachelbrownRachel Brown’s aptly titled CD, “Love, Life & Relationships”, is richly infused with the mid-eighties classic R&B and adult contemporary platform. Her voice is reminiscent of quiet storm veterans like Regina Belle, Mikki Howard, Evelyn Champagne King, Cheryl Pepsii Riley or even classics like Sarah Vaughn.

Ms. Brown’s cover of ‘Don’t Ask My Neighbor’ by the Emotions is one of the strongest songs on the CD and stays true to the classic rendition.  She brings life into the song while adding her own ‘artistic stamp’.  Rachel Brown’s CD is mostly about “Loving Yourself” enough to know what type of relationships are best for you.

As a versatile studio singer and classical pianist, Rachel Brown has performed on stage with Ann Nesby, John P. Kee, Dorothy Norwood and Cameo.  Born and raised in Lufkin, Texas, Rachel started her musical journey  singing in her church choir at the age of 6.   Since her commencement, she has performed locally in major venues and internationally.

Overall, the CD was refreshing and it allowed me to be a little nostalgic about the 80’s (one of the best periods for R&B music).  Other formidable songs on the CD are, ‘Do What You Do’, the heart wrenching choir backed, “My Child” and “Promise of Love,’ a powerful duet with Reno Walker, which reflects Ms. Brown’s vocal range and strength.

I felt this review was just in time for Valentine’s and would be a great CD to give to someone special.  Catch Rachel at a city near you and show your support.
