Ep.8- There’s No ‘We’ in I

April 5th, 2010

“I can’t wait until we get to Puerto Rico.  Hey we don’t’ need passports either,” Demi’s excitement sent her dancing into overdrive until…

Demi, I didn’t say I was buying your ticket.”

“Say what? But you said…”

“I said I’m going to Puerto Rico, not ‘We’.   I’m your big sis and all but I can’t afford tickets for the both of us so last minute.”

“Oh this is so unfair.”

“Dem, I’m sorry, please understand.”

“Dude,” Demi huffed, “You’re going to be lying on the beaches of Puerto Rico and I’m going to be stuck here.”

“Give it a rest Demetria, you’ll invade my home while I’m gone, cuddling next to whatever guy you’ve been dating.”

“I guess you’re right but Melissa’s been getting on my nerves lately.”

“Yeah I’ve noticed that.  What’s going on with that?”  Sunny continued packing.

“She’s just been acting weird and testy lately.  How long will she be living here anyway. It’s already been six months.”

“Just until she gets on her feet.  She pays rent so the extra income comes in handy.  Besides she’s been gone all week and the last message I got from her didn’t give me the impression she’d be back for a few more days.”

“Cool, so can I drive your ride while you’re gone too?”

“Only if you put gas in it; you always leave the tank on empty.”

“I got you sis. Don’t worry; I’ll even take her to the car wash for you.”

“See this solo trip is already redefining our sisterhood and making it stronger.”

Sunny tossed her head back in laughter.  The gleam in her eye spoke volumes.  The trip already lifted a load from her shoulders.  She knew having Demi along would make the trip exciting but with the loss of her job, she needed to have a spending plan in place. The trip was unplanned and definitely not something she would normally do but she needed a change, a spark, some direction.

Demi’s saddened expression broke her heart at first but her sister was old enough to get a part time job, save and be more responsible with her finances.  Just because she was in school didn’t mean she didn’t have to carve out her own expenses to some degree.

“Make sure you take plenty of pictures.”

“Yes ma’am.”
