Here’s another literary treat. I had the pleasure of meeting Beverly Preston (on the web) a few months ago and I’m so glad she’s visiting my blog today.

As an internationally published best-selling author, Beverly Preston has been a stay at home mom for the past 21 years (though she prefers the title Domestic Engineer) raising four amazing kids. Along the way, she worked side by side with her husband Don, the love of her life, designing and building custom homes.
Her book, No More Wasted Time has celebrated it’s one-year anniversary with an astounding mass of 5-star reviews and multiple rankings within the AMAZON kindle top 100. Don’t believe me? Read this. Oh yeah, check this out too!
If she’s not at home riding her spin bike, you’ll find her spinning richly emotional and sinfully sexy romance stories.

KD: When did you decide to become a writer?
BP: I never dreamt of being a writer. I decided to write No More Wasted Time after I woke up from a nightmare that my husband had died and I was in Bora Bora scattering his ashes in the lagoon. I worried for weeks that he was going to fall off the roof he was working on, but I finally realized it was simply a bad dream and my hubby wasn’t going anywhere. However, that tiny fragment of a dream haunted me for months, building into this story that wouldn’t rest. A month later I started typing and didn’t stop for a year and half. Viola! No More Wasted Time!

Judy Lynn Hubbard is a native Texan and a graduate of Southern Methodist University with a degree in Psychology–which comes in handy when delving into the psyches of her characters. During the day, she’s a Medical Transcription Editor, which means one way or another she’s always at the computer, but she wouldn’t have it any other way.
Her current release is “These Arms of Mine“, followed by pending new release, “Our First Kiss”, July 23, 2013 (see summary after interview).
Both are available for purchase or pre-order via Amazon Kindle, Barnes and Noble Nook and other online retailers. Check out her interview below and don’t forget to buy her book today!
KD: When did you decide to become a writer?
JLH: When I was 14. My sister gave me a Harlequin to read and I was hooked, vowing one day I would write for them and it finally happened!
KD: When did you start your publishing journey?
JLH: When I was around 28 or 29. I was working full-time (and still am, lol) but that’s when I really decided to sit down and write an entire book instead of just excerpts and pursue publication.
KD: If there was a season that you stopped writing/pursing publishing, how long did it last, why did you take a break, and when/why did you resume?
JLH: I took breaks for life—something would come up keeping me from writing as much as I wanted, but I always wrote something—even if it was just a paragraph or two. I never gave up on being published. It took many years, but I finally made it!
KD: What is your overall publishing goal/dream?
JLH: My first big publishing goal was to be published by Harlequin. Now that I’ve done that, I plan to branch out into self-publication.
KD: Do you write in other genres or arenas such as screenwriting or copywriting?
JLH: I’m outlining a paranormal romance now and a romantic suspense and maybe even one day, erotica.
KD: Tell us about your most recent release.
JHL: OUR FIRST KISS will be released on July 23, 2013, by Harlequin Kimani. It is the sequel to last year’s OUR FIRST DANCE. There will also be a third book (as yet untitled). This trilogy follows the Carter siblings (Natasha, Nathan and Nicole) as they find true love. OUR FIRST KISS is Nathan’s story.
KD: Which character in your book, would you say that you were most like and why?
JLH: Marcy, because she’s tenacious; she sees what she wants and she goes after it with a vengeance. She’s also fun-loving, honest and adores her family.
KD: Take us through the journey of writing this book. How did you come up with concept, and plot? How long did it take to write it?
JLH: I sit down and ask myself “what if” questions to flesh out a concept for a book—one question leads to another and then another until I have a nice outline, which I read over and if I like it, I create an chapter by chapter outline and run with that. If I have the time to write, I can finish a book in about 3 months, but that rarely happens, because life always interrupts!
KD: What marketing platforms did you use to promote your book and which have worked the best for you?
JLH: Facebook, Twitter, my web site, guest blogs. I think they all have their usefulness. If I had to choose one, I think Facebook has put me in touch with more readers than anything else and I love being able to “talk” directly to them in real time.
KD: Do you have any pending releases or appearances?
JLH: I’ll be at the Dreamin’ In Dallas Conference sponsored by the DARA Chapter of RWA. I’m participating in the book signing there on the March 29th. My next release is OUR FIRST KISS, will be released on July 23, 2013.
KD: Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
JHL: Still writing and publishing.
KD: If you could give a new writer any advice about publishing in the digital age would it be?
JHL: Try your hand at self-publishing; don’t be intimidated—just jump right into that. Amazon makes it easy to try; I wish they had been around when I started writing.
KD: What is your favorite quote and why?
JLH: What doesn’t kill us makes us stronger.” By Friedrich Nitzsche. I love that because it’s so true—trials and tribulations are a daily occurrence in life; it’s how we deal with them that makes the difference.

Hey fam,
I know it’s been a while since I’ve talked about my film career. The books have taken over, but I’m glad. It’s been great to write and share some stories of characters that I’ve been wanting to expose for a long time.
I’ve also taken a break from the film path (publicly) because I’ve been making moves behind the scenes and building resources for a special project. Until then, if you’re a budding actor, writer, producer, set designer, graphic artist etc in the film industry and need tips on pursuing your own career, or if you’re interested a few good movie reviews then check the recent articles I’ve released under my examiner column. Be sure to subscribe, tell a friend and share!
You can also check out my eBook, “Getting Started on the Web for Actors” for more information about pursuing this career for only $.99 cents. Check it out here! Keep reading for some of my latest film industry articles!

Queen Latfiah lands the Wright moves!
Ta da! The cover reveal of my eBook “Rescuing Mr. Wright” . You wouldn’t believe the MADNESS, that I went through to get this couple on this cover. Yepper. Quite a bit of photo manipulation involved, but I had to have the characters that I wanted for Sunny and Jaden, portrayed correctly!
Anywho, on to the fun facts!
On a return trip home, Sunny Carlisle sees a sexy, handsome, caramel-smooth brotha, (Jaden “Boss” Wright) stranded on the side of the highway.
DANG! I wish I had that kind of luck! Go figure!
Well, one would think it would be love at first sight…but you’re wrong.
As far as the Hunk in Distress mode, some of you may be like…
“Uh huh, Kandie. You got the roles reversed. Sunny should be stranded and Jaden should find her.”
My answer?
I’m all about “GIRL POWER” and independence. Therefore, I do like my female characters to be business savvy, strong, comical and adventurous. However, she’s still a woman, and she wants a good man. But don’t worry, for you hopeful romantics out there, Sunny will play the “damsel in distress” at some point in the story.
More fun facts on there way and an excerpt is coming soon, as well as a contest to receive a free Kindle copy of the eBook!
I got my fam covered!
stay lit, kd
