Column: Make This The Year {condensed}
by: Kandie Delley {2000}

I don't know about you but this year is rolling around quickly for me. In only a few months most of us will be preparing for the holiday bustle and last minute shopping. Anxious shoppers will try to cram in their last minute holiday shopping which of course will allude to empty bank accounts and maxed out credit cards. Let's not forget the road rage due to unrelenting traffic, and unpredictable weather. You know Texans, you could drop an ice cube out on the road and we are practically swerving all over creation to avoid that first winter chill, that first bit of sleet, that first drop of snow. A New Year would not be a New Year without hope, expectations and resolutions.

Speaking of hope and expectations, this year I've been able to see professional colleagues at work making a positive difference in DFW. Dallas' music and entertainment circles are finally coming together now that people understand that we have to recycle the money and help each other.

The main thing is bringing back the New Year's Spirit and resolutions. It's your ticket to a better you and a better community. You get on a positive note and you will act on that positive energy. Resolutions are just that. They are to resolve anything in your life that needs to be changed to make you a better person, a better artist, a better whatever it is you desire to be. So stop moping around, complaining, griping and wishing you were someplace that you're not (and honey I know because I’ve been there, done that)

Get off your butt and hit some of these places around town and support your local entertainment establishments, artists and media events. You may be surprised. You could bump into your next opportunity.
